Historique :	Copie d'après une fresque de Sebastiano del Piombo située à la basilique Saint-Pierre de Rome et un panneau peint qui lui est également attribué, daté de 1525 (musée Civico de Viterbe). Conformément aux récits de la Flagellation, cette composition met en scène le Christ adossé et attaché à une colonne, fouetté par ses bourreaux. En hommage à l'architecture antique, Sebastiano del Piombo situe cet épisode de la Passion dans une rotonde au péristyle soutenu par de puissantes colonnes de marbre. La copie de Marines a sans doute été réalisée par un peintre influencé par la seconde école de Fontainebleau : les figures colossales peintes par Sebastiano del Piombo dans la tradition de Michel Ange ont été remplacées par des personnages aux silhouettes beaucoup plus allongées et aux postures plus affectées.
