Historique :	Copie d'après un tableau peint par Van Dyck conservé à Londres dans la collection du comte d'Ellesmere (Bridgewater House). D'après Louis Régnier, le tableau a été acheté à la vente du mobilier du château en 1818 après le décès de Madame Girardin ou donné à l'église de son vivant.

Précision_sur la representation :	Marie, debout, vue à mi-corps, soutient l'Enfant, debout à sa gauche, sur un muret où elle a jeté l'extrémité, ramenée en avant, de son ample manteau bleu. Une robe d'un beau rouge mordoré complète son vêtement. Les yeux sont levés au Ciel, comme s'ils avaient la vision d'un avenir douloureux. L'Enfant, à peu près nu, tourne son joli visage à sa gauche et regarde droit devant lui, dans une apparente insouciance qui contraste avec la profonde préoccupation de Marie. Il s'appuie de la main droite à la poitrine de sa mère dans un geste plein de naturel (Louis Régnier).
