Précision_sur la representation :	Comme une figure de dévotion, ce saint Jacques, ou peut-être plus simplement ce pèlerin, est représenté debout, occupant toute la hauteur de la composition. De la main gauche, il tient le bourdon surmonté d'une gourde ; il porte la coiffe et les coquilles du pèlerin de Saint Jacques. Derrière lui, apparaît un paysage de plaine traversé par une rivière et bordé par des coteaux. De l'autre côté, sur un massif rocheux, un homme agenouillé se recueille au pied d'une croix. A droite, le tableau est limité par un arbre à l'écorce blanche sur lequel grimpent des feuilles de lierre. Par son style, ce tableau paraît marqué par le courant romantique. Le profond paysage et le vaste ciel aux couleurs lumineuses sont peints dans une facture lisse. Le visage du saint ou du pèlerin, aux cheveux longs et aux traits expressifs, est représenté avec beaucoup d'humanité.
