Historique :	La signature et la date ont été découvertes au cours de l'allégement du vernis. Le peintre n'a à ce jour pas pu être identifié.

Précision sur_l'état :	Restauration effectuée par Martine Martin et l'atelier Joyerot en 1996.
Précision sur l'inscription :	Date et signature (sur le rocher, au pied de la croix, initiales entrelacées) : 1816 JD.
Précision_sur la representation :	Le Christ en croix est représenté seul au centre de la composition, qu'il occupe presque entièrement ; il a un corps allongé, au hanchement prononcé et le dessin des muscles et de l'anatomie est peint avec une extrême précision. Il se détache sur un fond ténébreux et rougeoyant ; à l'arrière plan se trouvent les murailles et collines de la ville de Jérusalem et au pied de la croix, le crâne du Golgotha. L'ensemble est traité de manière assez classique mais avec une certaine résonance romantique.
