Historique :	Demande du curé le 1er mars 1850, d'un tableau relatant cet épisode et traité par Bouterwek. Commande de l'Etat de 4000 fr., le 10 juillet 1850. Tableau achevé en octobre 1851. Présenté au Salon de 1852. Inauguré à la fête de la Translation, le 12 août 1852, en présence du Prince Président. Transporté dans la nouvelle église d'Argenteuil et marouflé ensuite.
